Nevada Softball Faces Double Setback at Mountain West Championship
San Diego, CA – The Nevada Wolf Pack softball team suffered a disappointing day at the Mountain West Championship on Friday, falling to Fresno State 5-2 and then to host San Diego State 5-4, ending their title hopes.
In the first semifinal, Nevada started strong, with Aaliyah Jenkins hitting a record-tying 17th homer. However, a series of errors allowed Fresno State to capitalize, leading to three runs in the third inning, including a homer by Taryn Irigoyen. The Pack struggled to convert scoring opportunities, loading the bases with one out but managing only two runs, with Jenkins contributing both RBIs.
Later, facing San Diego State, Nevada tried to mount a comeback but fell short. After trailing early, the team rallied to tie the game with key RBIs from Lexi O’Gorman and Maya Larsen. In a tense conclusion, Jenkins led off the seventh with a double, but the Pack could not capitalize, ending their tournament run.
Nevada finished with an impressive 41-14 overall record and now awaits their NCAA tournament fate, with the selection show airing on ESPN2 this Sunday at 4 p.m. Jenkins leaves the tournament with multiple season records, underscoring her impact on the team.
