Community Resource Event Aims to Combat Homelessness in North Las Vegas
NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A significant step in addressing homelessness is set for this Thursday, May 8, with a community resource event organized by the Nevada Homeless Alliance at Delta Academy, located at 818 W Brooks Avenue. The pop-up event, running from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., is free and open to students and families throughout the valley.
The initiative, aimed at providing crucial resources, showcases the collaborative efforts of various organizations. "Collaboration is the key to success," stated Dr. Catrina Grigsby-Thedford, executive director of the Nevada Homeless Alliance. Previous events have served thousands by offering healthcare, educational support, financial literacy, and housing assessments.
Services at the event will include vision tests, blood pressure checks, and vaccinations for the upcoming school year (COVID-19, flu, and Hepatitis A, B, and C). Additionally, assistance will be available for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid. Attendees are advised to bring birth certificates and a Nevada ID for entry.
Delta Academy’s principal, Dr. Lashon Fredricks, expressed gratitude for the partnership, emphasizing the importance of accessible support for families in need.
