Nevada Wolf Pack Clinches Series with Dramatic Walk-Off Win Over Fresno State

RENO, NV – In a thrilling display of resilience, the Nevada Wolf Pack overcame a four-run deficit to defeat Fresno State 6-5, clinching the series victory. Sean Yamaguchi delivered the decisive blow, launching a two-out, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth, solidifying Nevada’s position in the Mountain West standings.

With this victory, the Wolf Pack (27-19, 14-9 MW) narrows the gap to just one game behind the Bulldogs (23-23, 15-8 MW) as both teams prepare for the series finale set for Sunday at 12:05 p.m.

The game saw a solid performance from Nevada’s bullpen, particularly reliever Dominic Desch, who earned his fifth win of the season by silencing Fresno State’s offense over 3.1 innings. The score remained tied at 5-5 from the sixth inning until Yamaguchi’s heroics in the ninth, where he connected on a 1-1 pitch from Bulldog reliever JT Guerrero for a no-doubt homer.

Yamaguchi’s performance was part of a standout day, finishing 2-for-5 with two home runs. Michael Ball also contributed significantly with a solo home run in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the sixth that tied the game.

Fresno State initially took control with a four-run rally highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Griffin Sotomayor. However, Nevada fought back, with pivotal hits from Taylor Holder and Yamaguchi ultimately leading to their comeback.

As the teams gear up for the last matchup of the series, Nevada’s thrilling victory sets an electric stage for the finale in hopes of overtaking Fresno State in the standings.
