Nevada DMV Introduces Walk-In Real ID Appointments Before Federal Deadline

The Nevada DMV is offering walk-in appointments for Real ID transactions in Reno and Carson City on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m. until May 15. This is in preparation for the federal government’s full implementation of the REAL ID Act on May 7, 2025, which will require all Americans to have a Real ID-compliant driver’s license, passport, or other accepted form of ID to board domestic flights or enter secure federal buildings.

Starting May 7, a Real ID will be necessary for these purposes, and many find obtaining a Real ID driver’s license to be the easiest option as it is the same size and cost as a regular license. The new regulations are intended to enhance national security and reduce identity theft. The Nevada DMV’s offering of walk-in appointments will make it easier for residents to comply with these new regulations before the deadline.
