Newborn Rescued From Dumpster in Sun Valley
Sun Valley, NV — A newborn baby is safe and in good health after being discovered abandoned in a dumpster on Saturday, July 5. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reported that a concerned citizen called 911 around 1 p.m. after hearing the infant’s cries near 400 Sun Valley Boulevard. The compassionate passerby climbed into the dumpster and rescued the baby before emergency responders arrived.
The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District quickly transported the infant to Renown for evaluation, where medical staff confirmed the child’s well-being. Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam commended the individual for her brave and prompt actions, stating, “This child is alive today because of the swift and selfless actions of a community member.” He also emphasized the importance of reminding the community about safe and legal alternatives for those in crisis, asserting that "no baby should ever be left in danger."
