Nevada Ranks Last Among Mountain West Schools in Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings Again

Nevada Athletics Finishes Last Again in Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings

For the second consecutive year, the University of Nevada’s athletic department has landed at the bottom of the Mountain West Conference in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings. This week, the final rankings revealed that Nevada scored only 45 points, all earned from a commendable 15th-place finish in national skiing.

In the Mountain West, schools are ranked based on their performance across various sports, with Nevada trailing significantly behind its peers. New Mexico topped the conference with 495.5 points, bolstered by strong results in cross country and track and field, followed by Boise State and Colorado State, who also made the top 100 nationally.

Despite winning two Mountain West regular-season championships this year, in softball and baseball, Nevada did not qualify for any NCAA Tournaments—a first since the 2015-16 season. This year’s performance marks a continued decline for the Wolf Pack, who have consistently placed in the bottom tier since joining the conference in 2012, apart from a brief uptick to eighth place during the 2016-17 season.

Comparatively, other schools that will join the Mountain West in 2026-27 saw varied success, with Hawaii at 99th, UC Davis at 108th, and Grand Canyon at 137th. The Texas Longhorns have claimed the Learfield Directors’ Cup championship for the second year in a row, edging out Stanford.

As Nevada looks to rebound, questions loom about how it can improve its overall athletic standing and secure a place in future NCAA competitions. The full team-by-team results of the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings have been released, shedding light on the competitive landscape within the Mountain West.
