RENO, NV — As the Nevada Wolf Pack football team wraps up its spring camp, Head Coach Jeff Choate has confirmed that Chubba Purdy will enter fall camp as the starting quarterback. Purdy demonstrated impressive skills during the spring sessions, particularly in live situations, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities. "I really liked what Chubba did in the spring; he has the ability to make plays with his feet," Choate stated after the team’s recent showcase at Carson High.
Purdy’s main competitor for the starting position is AJ Bianco, who has prior starting experience with the team. Additionally, the roster includes two other scholarship quarterbacks: Anthony Grigsby and true freshman Carter Jones. Choate expressed confidence in the quarterback depth, emphasizing the healthy competition that will enhance team performance.
Originally a four-star recruit, Purdy has had a challenging college path, transitioning to Nevada after stints at Florida State and Nebraska. Injury setbacks have limited his appearances, culminating in a single start last season. This spring, Purdy noted, "This is the healthiest I’ve been since 2019. I’m excited to compete and show what I can do."
Following the conclusion of spring practices, the team is gearing up for the transfer portal opening, aiming to bolster various positions, including defensive end and linebacker. Choate is also focused on team unity, recognizing the need for cohesive group dynamics and rigorous summer training.
