Nevada Sports Net Honors MacKenzie Sellers as "High School Prep of the Week"
Reno, NV – Every week during the high school sports season, Nevada Sports Net celebrates local athletic talent with the "High School Prep of the Week" honor, presented in partnership with America First Credit Union. This week, the spotlight shines on MacKenzie Sellers, a standout sophomore from Reno.
Competing in track and field as well as volleyball, Sellers has made a significant mark in the world of pole vaulting. She is the reigning Class 5A girls state pole vault champion for 2024 and is ranked among the nation’s top ten freshmen in the event. Additionally, she earned first-team all-region honors for both pole vault and the 4×100 relay this year.
Sellers’ journey began in gymnastics, where she flourished until she decided to pursue a different path. Encouraged by her mother, Stacey, she transitioned to pole vaulting after witnessing a teammate’s successful switch from gymnastics. Now, as a sophomore, she sits atop Nevada’s state rankings for pole vault and continues to climb nationally, securing a position in the top three among high school sophomores.
According to Jordan Parker, Reno High’s head pole vault coach, "There’s a lack of fear in her because of her background in sports. She’s one of the most consistent vaulters I’ve ever coached. Her competitiveness and perfectionist nature drive her to excel, making her an exceptional athlete."
