Nevada Softball Clinches Mountain West Lead After Sweeping UNLV Doubleheader
Nevada softball has surged to the top of the Mountain West standings following a thrilling doubleheader sweep against UNLV, winning 5-4 and 4-2. With these victories, the Pack secured crucial points in the Silver State Series presented by American First Credit Union.
In game one, senior Aaliyah Jenkins shone brightly, earning her second consecutive Mountain West Player of the Week accolade. She went 3-for-3 at the plate, smashing two home runs and a triple, driving in three runs and accumulating 11 total bases—the third-most in Nevada history. The team had to overcome an early 2-0 deficit after UNLV’s Charelle Aki hit a two-run double. Jenkins responded with her ninth home run in the first inning and later added a second home run to reclaim the lead. An error by the Rebels allowed for crucial scoring opportunities for the Pack, and Hailey McLean wrapped up the win, earning her third save of the season.
In game two, McLean dominated once again, pitching a complete game while allowing just four hits and striking out eight, marking her 300th career strikeout. The Pack displayed their offensive prowess with back-to-back home runs from Maya Larsen, who ended a long homerless drought, and Saige Alfaro, who recorded her first home run for Nevada. Jenkins continued her impressive performance, extending her on-base streak to ten games.
With an impressive 6-2 record in conference play, Nevada holds the tiebreaker over Utah State, positioning them firmly atop the standings. The Pack will travel to California for a busy weekend, including a game against Cal on Friday and a series against Fresno State on Saturday and Sunday.
