Nevada Softball Team’s Historic Tournament Run Ends
The Nevada softball team faced a tough end to its Mountain West tournament run, seeking its first-ever championship appearance but succumbing to Fresno State and San Diego State over the weekend. Friday began with optimism as the Wolf Pack aimed for a single victory to advance. They initially led Fresno State 1-0, thanks to Aaliyah Jenkins’ solo home run. However, costly errors allowed the Bulldogs to take the lead and secure a 5-2 win, with Mountain West pitcher of the year Serayah Neiss limiting Nevada to six hits.
In an elimination game against San Diego State later that day, Nevada rallied from an early deficit to tie the game 2-2. Despite taking a brief lead in the fifth inning, a two-run homer from SDSU’s Gabriella Terrones shifted momentum back to the Aztecs. Nevada fought back but ultimately fell 5-4, despite having a chance to tie with runners on second and third in the seventh inning.
Ending the tournament with a 41-14 overall record, the Wolf Pack now anxiously awaits news about a potential at-large bid to the NCAA regional, marking a promising season under first-year head coach Victoria Hayward.
