University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Breaks Ground on Cofrin Technology and Education Center
Green Bay, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) has commenced construction on the Cofrin Technology and Education Center, a state-of-the-art facility set to replace the aging Cofrin Library. This $101 million project aims to become the new heart of the campus, offering advanced resources and spaces for students and faculty. (uwgb.edu)
The decision to replace the 52-year-old library was based on a 2020 feasibility study, which concluded that constructing a new building would be more cost-effective than renovating the existing structure. The study highlighted significant structural issues, including the need to replace over 75% of the exterior brickwork. (news.uwgb.edu)
Scheduled for completion in fall 2027, the five-story center will house a modern library, collaborative learning spaces, and advanced technology labs. The design includes innovative maker spaces, interactive labs, and cooperative technology studios, positioning the center as a hub for technology and innovation on campus. (uwgb.edu)
The project is expected to create approximately 1,200 jobs during construction, providing a significant boost to the local economy. Additionally, the center is anticipated to enhance UWGB’s ability to attract and retain students, particularly those pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
