Sam Brown Confirmed as Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs at the VA
Washington, D.C. – July 31, 2025 – Former U.S. Army captain Sam Brown has been confirmed by the Senate as an Under Secretary for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically overseeing memorial affairs, which includes a network of 150 national cemeteries. The Senate voted 54-44 in favor of Brown’s confirmation, with support from Nevada’s Democratic Senators, Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto.
After the confirmation, Brown expressed his gratitude on social media, reflecting on his journey and emphasizing his commitment to serving veterans. A Purple Heart recipient, Brown sustained significant injuries from an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan.
Sen. Jerry Moran, chair of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, praised Brown’s background and dedication to the military community. Meanwhile, Sen. Cortez Masto reached out to Brown for updates on the construction of Nevada’s Elko national cemetery, emphasizing the urgency of the project for local veterans who currently face long travel distances for burial services.
Brown’s new role is seen as critical in addressing veterans’ memorial needs across the nation, particularly in underserved regions.
