Nevada GOP Escalates Immigration Tensions by Targeting Lawmaker’s Family
In a recent heated exchange over immigration policy, the Nevada Republican Party has ignited controversy by alerting federal officials to the legal status of family members of Democratic State Senator Fabian Doñate. The GOP’s social media post accused Doñate of boasting about having undocumented family members, calling for all elected officials to report illegal immigrants to ICE.
Doñate expressed dismay, stating, “Their message was more about separation of a family,” emphasizing the recklessness of the state party’s actions. Progressive advocacy organizations have rallied in support, likening the tactics of the Nevada GOP to “crowd-sourced witch-hunts reminiscent of 1930s Germany,” criticizing the intimidation behind the rhetoric.
The controversy stemmed from Doñate’s comments regarding the temporary closure of Broadacres Marketplace, which has faced community concerns about ICE operations. The GOP claimed businesses relying on undocumented workers don’t deserve to operate, a stance Doñate calls anti-business.
