Nevada County Superior Court Launches Historic Courthouse Tours
Nevada City, CA – The Nevada County Superior Court, in collaboration with the Nevada County Historical Society (NCHS), proudly announces the start of Historic Courthouse Tours. The inaugural free tour, taking place on June 27, is already fully booked, showcasing the community’s enthusiasm.
This civic engagement initiative invites the public to explore the Historic Nevada City Courthouse, delving into the rich local history associated with the building. Participants will learn about its architecture, past uses, and significant figures that have influenced Nevada County and U.S. history. Knowledgeable volunteer guides from the Historical Society will provide insights and answer questions throughout the tour.
Judge Kelly Babineau, a strong advocate for this initiative, emphasized the importance of understanding history in fostering civic engagement. He acknowledged the efforts of various stakeholders, including the Historical Society and court staff, in bringing these tours to fruition.
Steve Fry, an NCHS board member, expressed pride in partnering with the court. He noted the courthouse’s storied past, highlighting it as a central figure in the county’s development since the mid-1850s.
Tours are scheduled for the second and fourth Fridays each month, with advance sign-ups required due to limited availability. Interested participants can contact the Historical Society at courthousetours@nevadacountyhistory.org.
