Irina Hansen Announces Bid for Nevada Governor in 2026 Election
The Center Square – In a bid to shake up the political landscape, former small business owner Irina Hansen has declared her candidacy for the 2026 Nevada gubernatorial race. A Republican, Hansen previously ran for Las Vegas mayor in 2024, where she garnered just over 1% of the vote. She positions herself as an outsider in a political atmosphere she claims is marred by corruption, emphasizing her commitment to integrity and transparency.
“I don’t owe lobbyists, unions or backroom deals. I answer only to God and the people,” Hansen stated, highlighting her independent stance. She is currently the only other Republican in the race alongside incumbent Governor Joe Lombardo, while Democrat Aaron Ford, Nevada’s Attorney General, has been critical of Lombardo’s administration. Former Democratic Governor Steve Sisolak has also hinted at a possible primary challenge against Ford.
Hansen has made headlines for her strong views on voting integrity, claiming the electoral process in her previous mayoral run was manipulated. “Let’s be blunt,” she asserted, echoing her concerns about Nevada’s election system. However, these claims have largely been dismissed, with most critiques focusing on voting timeliness rather than allegations of rigging.
Should she assume office, Hansen promises to establish a State Integrity Task Force tasked with investigating governmental corruption. Additionally, she vows to champion parental rights and challenge what she terms “activist judges and public officials.”
Bringing over two decades of real estate experience and insights from her background as a salon and spa owner, Hansen aims to address regulations and taxes affecting small businesses in Nevada.
As the political landscape heats up, the gubernatorial election is set for November 3, 2026, with Hansen promising to bring a fresh perspective to Nevada’s leadership.
