Utah Downwinder Pens Book on Nevada Atomic Testing

Local Author Chronicles Nuclear Legacy in New Book

Eddie “Mac” Jones, a former eyewitness to atomic bomb tests in Nevada, has released a self-published book titled You Are A Downwinder, shedding light on the lingering effects of nuclear radiation exposure. Speaking from St. George, Utah, Jones emphasized the alarming ignorance surrounding the health implications faced by those affected. “People either don’t know that they were exposed, or they’ve forgotten that they were exposed, or they don’t care,” he lamented.

Reflecting on his own struggles, the 87-year-old has battled severe health issues linked to his exposure, losing a kidney and undergoing multiple reconstructive surgeries for cancer-related complications. Tragically, he also lost a brother to pancreatic cancer and has witnessed his sister endure three operations for breast cancer.

Jones urges the community to recognize and confront the truth about the hidden devastations of nuclear testing. “Twenty more years of people that were exposed to those A-bombs over age 62 will be gone,” he warned. His book aims to raise awareness about a generational crisis that many seem reluctant to acknowledge. For more information, visit stgeorgeutah.com.
