Lyon County Commissioners Approve Key Ordinances in Recent Meeting
June 19, 2025 – Lyon County, NV – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners convened on June 18, 2025, addressing critical items on their agenda, including ordinances related to renewable energy and multifamily residential structures.
The Board approved a pivotal Renewable Energy Ordinance in a 3-2 vote, with Commissioners Cassinelli and Jacobson dissenting. This ordinance amends several chapters of the Lyon County Code to update performance standards for wind, geothermal, and solar energy systems. Notably, it introduces energy storage systems as permissible in designated zoning districts and outlines standards for the decommissioning and reclamation of renewable energy projects.
The Board also passed an ordinance establishing design standards for the roofs of multifamily residential structures, aimed at enhancing aesthetic uniformity within the community.
In another segment, Taylor Allison, the County’s Emergency Management and Government Affairs Director, presented the outcomes of the recent 83rd Nevada Legislature session. Lyon County’s Government Affairs team monitored over 625 bills, estimating that certain legislative outcomes could have initially posed a $10 million fiscal impact. Fortunately, many of these bills were either amended or died, resulting in a neutral financial consequence for the County.
Additional actions included the approval of a storm drain easement purchase and updates on the Dayton Depot insurance claim following a fire in 2020. Furthermore, the Commissioners amended public defender agreements to reflect current staffing needs, authorized the appointment of an Interim Utilities Director, and approved travel expenses for three commissioners attending the upcoming Nevada Association of Counties Conference.
