Isfahan, Iran — Israeli airstrikes on Saturday targeted key sites in Isfahan, including the country’s largest nuclear research complex, according to the deputy provincial governor. While the attack raised concerns, he confirmed there was no hazardous materials leakage, urging residents to steer clear of affected areas to facilitate rescue operations.
Reports indicate multiple locations in Isfahan province were impacted, yet no casualties have been reported thus far. Iranian air defenses managed to intercept several of the strikes; however, some did penetrate defenses, leading to significant explosions attributed to both the air defenses and the airstrikes.
Akbar Salehi, deputy for security and law enforcement at the Isfahan governor’s office, stated that Israel’s targets encompassed various sites within the province, notably excluding the oil refinery from the attack. According to sources from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center endured severe damage during prior confrontations, with four buildings reported as critically impacted. However, representatives from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran downplayed these claims, maintaining that the damage was limited.
