Nevada Wolf Pack Athletics Season Recap: Mixed Results for 2023-24
The Nevada Wolf Pack athletics season concluded last week with mixed outcomes across various sports. The Nevada Sports Network (NSN) has assessed each team, providing report cards that reflect their performance, excluding skiing, which competes outside the Mountain West.
Softball (A-): Under the new leadership of Victoria Hayward, the team recorded its second-best win total, finishing with 41 victories and clinching the Mountain West (MW) regular-season title. Despite falling short in the MW Tournament semifinals and narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament, the season was deemed a success.
Women’s Tennis (B+): The squad achieved a record 17 wins and a second-place finish in MW play. Although they suffered an initial loss in the conference tournament, Amahée Charrier’s MW player of the year honor underscored an outstanding season.
Baseball (B): The team returned to form by winning the MW regular-season title, though it faced disappointment in the tournament semifinals. Overall, they finished with a solid 34-23 record.
Women’s Swim and Dive (B): With notable performances, including Scarlett Ferris qualifying for nationals, the Wolf Pack maintained their standing as a competitive team, finishing fourth in the MW Championships.
Women’s Golf (C+) and Track and Field (C+) experienced setbacks but had moments of promise, such as Gabby Kano’s U.S. Open qualification and a second-team All-American javelin performance from Lilly Urban.
Men’s Basketball (C) and Women’s Basketball (D) both struggled significantly, highlighted by records of 11-21 and 6-12 in MW play, respectively, leading to disappointing seasons.
Overall, the Wolf Pack faced challenges but also celebrated considerable successes, setting the stage for future improvements in Northern Nevada sports.
