Brady Hummel Named Boys Athlete of the Year in NSN’s High School Sports Review
Nevada Sports Net (NSN) is celebrating the achievements of local student-athletes with its debut of the High School Sports Year in Review show, airing tonight at 6, 8, and 10 p.m. Among the highlights is the announcement of the Boys Athlete of the Year, awarded to Spanish Springs High School’s multi-sport standout, Brady Hummel.
Hummel has emerged as a formidable talent, excelling in both football and basketball this year. In football, he earned recognition as the region’s Most Valuable Player, securing first-team all-region honors at both wide receiver and defensive back. Over the season, he recorded 73 receptions for 843 yards, scoring 10 touchdowns, while also contributing as a passer with a touchdown pass. On the defensive end, Hummel made a significant impact with 63 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles. His performance helped his team, the Spanish Springs Cougars, achieve a 7-5 record, finishing third in the Northern 5A-II standings.
Transitioning to basketball, Hummel continued to shine, starting for the Cougars as they went undefeated in league play (16-0) and clinched the Northern 4A regional title. Although they made progress in the state tournament, their journey ended in the Class 4A championship match against Sierra Vista. Hummel’s contributions on the court included an average of 6.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals, earning him second-team all-region honors.
Looking ahead, Hummel, who is currently a junior, has received scholarship offers from schools including Air Force, Navy, Army, and Portland State. He aims to further elevate his profile as he prepares for his senior season. Fans can catch a full interview with the standout athlete during the show.
