Nevada Outlaws AI-Generated Child Sex Abuse Material
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — In a significant legislative move, Nevada has enacted a bill prohibiting the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to produce child sex abuse material. Governor Joe Lombardo signed SB 263 into law, which expands the definition of child pornography to encompass any computer-generated sexually explicit images involving minors.
Introduced by Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, the measure garnered bipartisan support in both the Senate and Assembly. Cannizzaro hailed the legislation as a milestone for child protection, stating, "This legislation will empower law enforcement to investigate and prosecute individuals who exploit AI technology to create pornographic materials involving children."
The new law equips law enforcement with improved tools to address the challenges posed by rapidly evolving AI technology, aiming to enhance the safety of children and families across the state. As society grapples with the implications of AI in various sectors, Nevada’s proactive approach sets a precedent for safeguarding vulnerable populations amidst technological advancement.
