Deryk Engelland Set for Induction into Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Former Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Deryk Engelland will be honored this Friday evening with his induction into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame at Lee’s Family Forum. Known for both his on-ice talent and impactful community involvement, Engelland is celebrated locally for his heartfelt "We are Vegas Strong" speech delivered just days after the tragic events of October 1, 2017, before the Knights’ inaugural game.
Engelland, who enjoyed an 11-season career with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Calgary Flames, expressed his surprise and gratitude over the honor. “I never thought I’d be considered for any Hall of Fame,” he stated, emphasizing the significance of community engagement alongside athletic achievements. His connection with Las Vegas started in 2003 with the Las Vegas Wranglers, and he later returned as a key player for the Golden Knights, serving as an alternate captain during the franchise’s historic first season and contributing to their Stanley Cup Finals run.
Since retiring in December 2020, Engelland has continued his philanthropic efforts with the VGK Foundation. For those interested in attending the induction ceremony, tickets are available through the SNSHOF website.
