Northern Nevada Celebrates Pollinator Week with Educational Activities

As part of Pollinator Week, the University of Nevada, Reno Extension is actively encouraging Northern Nevadans to cultivate pollinator-friendly spaces in their gardens and communities. From June 16-22, residents can participate in the "Pollinator Week Bug and Flower Hunt," a citizen science initiative where individuals can photograph and track sightings of various pollinators using the iNaturalist app. This free event aims to enhance understanding of native flowering plants and critical pollinator habitats.

Additionally, on June 16, two free screenings of “My Garden of a Thousand Bees” will take place in Reno at the Museum of Natural History and in Minden at the local library. The event includes informative tours and discussions.

On June 17, the Extension will offer pollinator garden kits featuring a mix of 16 native and adaptive plants for $100. The kits must be pre-purchased online, with pickup available at various Extension offices.

Finally, on June 22, a self-guided "Northern Nevada Pollinator Garden Tour" will showcase public pollinator demonstration gardens in the area. Participants can engage with docents to learn about pollinator ecosystems. For registration and details on events, visit the provided links.
