Press Release: Truckee Firefighters Unite Under New Union Name
Truckee, Calif. — June 2, 2023 — The Truckee Fire Protection District proudly swore in its firefighters and captains under the newly renamed Sierra Nevada Firefighters, formerly known as Nevada County Professional Firefighters, Local 3800. The ceremony took place at Alibi Ale Works in downtown Truckee, marking a historic consolidation for professional firefighters across Nevada and Placer counties.
For the first time, firefighters from both counties are united under a single union, representing nine agencies, including Truckee, Newcastle, and Loomis. This move brings the total membership to approximately 150, the largest expansion in the union’s history.
Clayton Thomas, President of the Sierra Nevada Firefighters, expressed enthusiasm about enhancing the capabilities of Truckee Fire, acknowledging the benefits of improved safety training and resources for members. "The more folks that work and train together, the more efficient they are going to be,” he stated.
The swearing-in ceremony also welcomed 36 new members and their families, with IAFF 10th District Vice President Steve Gilman administering the oath. Thomas emphasized the positive collaboration throughout the organizing process, highlighting the commitment to making Truckee Fire exceptional for the community.
