Nevada Attorney General Joins Lawsuit Against Forced Reset Triggers

In a significant legal move, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford has joined a coalition of 15 Democratic attorneys general in a lawsuit targeting the Trump administration. The lawsuit aims to halt the redistribution of forced reset triggers (FRTs), devices that allegedly enable semi-automatic firearms to operate with a firing rate comparable to machine guns.

Ford criticized the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for its plans to return previously seized FRTs to gun owners, emphasizing the potential dangers this poses to public safety. "If the ATF distributes these devices across the country, it will put Americans at risk of further gun violence,” Ford stated.

Forced reset triggers can fire at rates up to 20 rounds per second, raising concerns over their similarities to bump stocks, which have been banned in some states, including Nevada. Historically classified as machine guns, forced reset triggers have faced various legal interpretations, culminating in a settlement last May that lifted federal prohibition on their distribution.

The coalition argues that redistributing FRTs poses a substantial threat and makes retrieval nearly impossible. Participating states include Delaware, Colorado, and Illinois, among others.
