Press Release: Northern Nevada High School Athletes of the Year Announced
RENO, NV — In a thrilling conclusion to NSN’s fan vote, Reed High running back Bronwyn Rios and Bishop Manogue soccer star Ella Hallert have been named the Northern Nevada High School Athletes of the Year. The results were finalized Friday morning.
In the girls’ 16-athlete bracket, Hallert secured a narrow victory over Reed High basketball standout Taua Puloka, garnering 1,237 votes to Puloka’s 1,222. Meanwhile, Rios triumphed in the boys’ bracket, defeating Reno High baseball star Mack Edwards with a vote count of 1,248 to 1,035.
Both Hallert and Rios are set to continue their athletic careers at the University of Nevada, Reno. Hallert, a dual Northern 4A Sierra League offensive player of the year, was distinguished for her remarkable senior season, during which she netted a career-high 35 goals and 10 assists in just 18 games. Over her high school career, she scored a total of 81 goals and contributed 25 assists across 50 varsity matches, ranking as one of the top three goal scorers in Northern Nevada’s large-class girls’ soccer history.
Rios, a junior, emerged as one of Nevada’s top rushers, amassing 1,390 yards and 20 touchdowns this season. His impressive performance also included three touchdown receptions and a passing touchdown, helping lead Reed to the regional championship game. A three-time all-region athlete, Rios committed earlier this year to join the Nevada football team.
The full brackets from the Northern Nevada high school athletes of the year fan vote are available for viewing. The announcement of the boys and girls high school athletes of the year will take place during a special prep year-in-review show on NSN Tonight next Tuesday at 6, 8, and 10 p.m.
