Nevada Sports Net Highlights Wolf Pack’s 2023-24 Athletic Season
As the Nevada Wolf Pack’s athletic season nears its conclusion with javelin thrower Lilly Urban competing at the NCAA Championship, the year’s ups and downs are reflected in notable achievements and important milestones across various sports.
The Wolf Pack football team, despite a promising start, fell just short in its season opener against SMU, concluding a rollercoaster fall season. On the women’s soccer front, Emily Rich cemented her legacy as the program’s all-time leading scorer, clinching a historic victory over UNLV, ending an 0-10 streak at their venue.
In skiing, Nevada finished 15th nationally, marking a return to Division I competition after years as a club sport. The women’s basketball team set a program record for home attendance during their “When I Grow Up” game, drawing over 10,000 fans, although they narrowly lost to Fresno State.
Additionally, Wolf Pack tennis saw Youssef Kadiri’s remarkable journey to the NCAA Tournament as individual qualifier, showcasing Nevada’s athletic prowess. On the softball diamond, the team ended a championship drought, clinching the Mountain West title and winning 41 games, while baseball snagged its first regular-season title under Jake McKinley despite a tough tournament loss.
Notable individual performances included golfer Gabby Kano qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Open, and the Nevada women’s tennis team turned in its best season ever, securing an impressive overall record and producing the MW player of the year.
Off the field, significant facility improvements, including a new indoor track and future basketball arena, signal a forward momentum for Nevada athletics. As the season wraps up with Urban’s potential for All-American honors, the Wolf Pack looks to build on these successes into the 2024-25 season.
