Press Release: HopeLink of Southern Nevada Works to Combat Homelessness
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — HopeLink of Southern Nevada is making strides to combat homelessness by providing essential support through various programs aimed at preventing evictions. CEO Aaron Sheets emphasized the widening gap between rising costs of living and stagnating incomes, leaving many families vulnerable. "The cost of living is up, but incomes aren’t keeping pace," Sheets remarked, highlighting the urgency as 86,000 Nevada households are just a paycheck away from eviction.
HopeLink successfully prevented homelessness for nearly 1,600 individuals last year by offering crucial rental and employment assistance. As Sheets noted, the financial burden of homelessness can average $83,000 annually per individual, making prevention not only compassionate but cost-effective for the community.
Testimonials from families demonstrate the impact of the non-profit’s work. One father, Lazaro, recounted how HopeLink’s intervention put him and his son, Kiefer, back into a stable environment after losing their home. The program boasts a remarkable success rate, with less than 3% of families returning to crisis.
To further their mission, donations through June will be matched by an anonymous donor, up to $100,000. "We coach and encourage; we’re their biggest cheerleaders," Sheets concluded, demonstrating HopeLink’s commitment to keeping families housed.
