Nevada AG Aaron D. Ford Joins Multi-State Lawsuit Against Trump Tariffs

In a significant legal move, Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford has allied with 12 attorneys general to file a lawsuit aimed at blocking President Trump’s sweeping tariffs. The case, known as State of Oregon, et al., v. Trump, et al., was filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade and primarily challenges four executive orders that purportedly grant the president the authority to impose extensive tariffs without congressional approval.

"The president has certain authority to impose tariffs, but the approach he has taken is not only unlawful but also completely disrupts both the global economy and the day-to-day lives of Nevadans trying to make ends meet," stated AG Ford. He emphasized the need for legal action to address what he described as a "monumental overstep" of presidential powers.

The lawsuit contests Trump’s executive orders that mandate tariff increases on a broad range of products. Specifically, it targets a staggering 145% tariff on imports from China, 25% on goods from Canada and Mexico, and 10% on products from other nations. The legal action also addresses plans to enhance tariffs from 46 additional trading partners beginning July 9.

Ford joins forces with lead Attorneys General Dan Rayfield of Oregon and Kris Mayes of Arizona. Other participating states include Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, and Vermont.

This coalition seeks to not only protect consumers and businesses affected by the tariffs but also to uphold the balance of power as outlined in the U.S. Constitution. The lawsuit underscores mounting tensions over trade policy and executive authority in the current administration.
