Local High School Athletes Celebrate College Signings Before School Year Ends

As the 2024-25 school year draws to a close, high schools in the region are celebrating their student-athletes who are advancing to play at the collegiate level. Notably, McQueen High School’s Emma McNamara and Alyssa Allan have landed a unique opportunity to showcase their soccer talents at the University of Chester in England.

Nearby, Spanish Springs High School held a lively signing ceremony with nearly thirty students committing to various colleges, marking the second-largest signing class in the school’s history. The occasion underscored a robust tradition of athletic excellence in the region.

Track and field athletes continue to dominate the Division I landscape, with several standout performances from local schools. Spanish Springs’ Amaya Chapman has signed with the University of Nevada, while teammate Norham Abdel Halim will head to Portland State University. Other notable signees include Reno’s Grace Machurg (University of Montana) and Erick Simpson (Eastern Washington University), along with Carson High’s Sawyer Macy, who will compete for Lehigh University.

Additionally, seven student-athletes from Damonte Ranch High School signed their letters of intent on Wednesday, celebrating their achievements and future endeavors. Schools like Sparks, North Valleys, and Reed are slated to host their own signing ceremonies next week, continuing the trend of showcasing local talent and ambition.

With a rich pool of athletic talent, the region looks forward to watching these athletes excel at the next level, further contributing to a proud legacy of sportsmanship and achievement.
