Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission Suspends Michele Fiore Despite Trump Pardon
By Eric Neugeboren
The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline has imposed an interim suspension with pay on Michele Fiore, preventing her from assuming her role as a justice of the peace in Pahrump, even after receiving a pardon from former President Donald Trump. This unanimous decision comes amid new complaints against Fiore that cast doubt on her integrity and ability to fulfill her judicial duties.
The commission, composed of members appointed by the governor and other legal bodies, made it clear that Fiore’s return to her position could pose a serious risk to the public and the administration of justice. Fiore took to Facebook to criticize the commission, labeling the ruling as a reflection of bias and suggesting it was retaliatory rather than oversight.
Last month, Trump pardoned Fiore, who was facing sentencing for fraud related to misusing donations intended for a statue in memory of a fallen police officer. The commission recognized the pardon but noted that it did not absolve her of the ongoing complaints. Fiore’s attorney argued that her pardon should lead to the lifting of the suspension, as it covered all potential penalties stemming from her past conduct.
Fiore, a controversial figure in Nevada politics, previously served as a state assembly member and Las Vegas city councilwoman. She has faced numerous allegations, including those surrounding her conduct while fundraising for the police officer’s statue, which prosecutors argued involved diverting funds for personal expenses.
As the commission prepares to further investigate the new complaints against her, Fiore’s return to her role remains uncertain, marking yet another chapter in her tumultuous political career.
