Nevada Sports Recap: Truckee and North Tahoe Delay CIF Move, Wolf Pack Baseball in Title Hunt, BYU Dominates NCAA Golf
In today’s Morning Download, Nevada Sports Net covers three significant headlines.
Truckee and North Tahoe to Stay in NIAA
Truckee and North Tahoe high schools will postpone their transition from the NIAA to CIF for one more year. The Tahoe Truckee Unified School District School Board decided on Wednesday to continue competing in Nevada for the 2025-26 season, with plans to switch to CIF in 2026-27. The initial decision to move stemmed from NIAA’s new transgender-athlete ban, which conflicts with Nevada’s 2023 Equal Rights Amendment ensuring gender equality. Concerns regarding winter travel over the Sierra pass also contributed to the delay.
Nevada Baseball Opens Key Series Against San Jose State
The Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team kicks off its Mountain West-deciding series at San Jose State tonight. With a championship on the line, Nevada can secure the regular-season title with at least two wins this week, expanding its edge over rivals Fresno State and New Mexico. Historically, Nevada’s baseball program has claimed MW titles in 2015, 2019, and 2021. A fourth title would tie it with the men’s basketball team for the most MW championships in school history.
BYU Triumphs in NCAA Reno Regional Golf
The NCAA Reno Regional men’s golf tournament concluded with BYU taking the top position at 15 under, progressing to the nationals along with Virginia, Texas, San Diego, and Cal. Notable disappointments included No. 16-ranked Alabama, No. 21 Duke, and No. 28 Mississippi State, which failed to make the cut despite being top competitors. Virginia’s Paul Chang secured the individual medalist honor.
