North’s Regional Championship Crowns Track and Field Champions at Douglas High School

Minden, NV – The Northern Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) hosted an exciting regional championship over the weekend at Douglas High School, where Galena High School’s boys and Spanish Springs High School’s girls emerged victorious in the 5A division.

The Galena boys team dominated the competition with 159 points, while the Spanish Springs girls secured their title with 148 points. Among the standout performances was Reed’s Jayden (JT) Thompson, who claimed victory in the 100-meter dash with an impressive time of 10.57 seconds, followed closely by Galena’s Alyssa Dixon, who won the girls’ 100-meter dash in 12.30 seconds. Both athletes also triumphed in the 200-meter dash, showcasing their sprinting prowess.

Thompson, a junior and the reigning 5A state champion in the 100-meter, further contributed to Galena’s success by winning both the 4×200 and 4×100 relay events, accumulating a remarkable 30 points throughout the weekend. Meanwhile, sophomore MacKenzie Sellers distinguished herself in pole vault, securing her return to state competition with a top vault of 12 feet 6 inches.

The top four finishers in each event will move on to compete for state titles, highlighting the competitive spirit and talent showcased throughout the championship. The results of the various events can be accessed online for further details.

This regional championship not only highlighted the athleticism and dedication of the student-athletes but also set the stage for upcoming state competitions, where they will strive for further accolades in track and field.
