Aztecs Fall to Nevada in a Close 4-3 Contest on Saturday

San Diego State Falls to Nevada in a Heartbreaker, 4-3

RENO, Nev. – In a dramatic finish on Saturday at Don Weir Field, the San Diego State Aztecs suffered a 4-3 loss to the Nevada Wolf Pack in the second game of their Mountain West series. Despite the setback, the Aztecs (16-36, 11-15 MW) remain tied for fifth in the conference, as both Air Force and San José State lost their matches.

The game was tight, with SDSU briefly pulling ahead 3-2 following an unearned run from Jonathan Smith’s hit in the top of the eighth. However, Nevada (30-20, 16-10 MW) tied it in the bottom of the eighth when Sean Yamaguchi launched a home run.

With the game tied in the final inning, Jacob Doyle’s hit by pitch set the stage for a thrilling climax. A single by Jayce Dobie brought Doyle home with the winning run after an intentional walk to Yamaguchi. Nevada’s pitcher, Dominic Dresch, improved to 6-1 with a scoreless final inning, while Evan Miranda took the loss for SDSU.

The Aztecs out-hit Nevada 10-9, led by Smith’s 3-for-5 outing. SDSU looks to rebound in Sunday’s rubber match against the Wolf Pack at 12:05 p.m. PT.
