New Era for Nevada Men’s Basketball as GSR Arena Receives Green Light

RENO, NV – Nevada men’s basketball is set to embark on a transformative journey as the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) Arena receives approval for public funding, paving the way for groundbreaking next month. The arena, projected to open in summer 2027, signifies a departure from the 41-year-old Lawlor Events Center and promises to enhance the fan experience.

Athletic Director Stephanie Rempe announced expectations of increased ticket revenue between $3 million and $5 million in the first year, while committing to affordable pricing for families. The GSR Arena aims to host 17 home games annually with an average ticket price of $41.50. With a capacity of at least 10,000, it will feature premium seating options, including 25 full-sized suites and mini-suites, which will significantly boost revenue opportunities.

Despite the transition, concerns regarding attendance remain. The women’s basketball team won’t use GSR Arena due to capacity constraints, and plans to bus students from campus aim to cultivate a college atmosphere.

The arena’s construction, a $435 million endeavor, is considered a vital catalyst for financial growth in Wolf Pack athletics, fostering a richer, more competitive experience for players and fans alike.
