In response to CNN’s inquiry about the potential arrest of additional individuals, McLaughlin stated that the investigation was ongoing and arrests were possible. The three Democratic Congress members—Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez, and LaMonica McIver—visited the detention center to conduct oversight. They expressed distress over their treatment by ICE, describing it as intimidating and aggressive. Menendez emphasized the legal right of Congress members to conduct these oversight visits without prior notice.
Contradicting McLaughlin’s claims, Watson Coleman labeled the accusations of violence as “absurd,” asserting that the DHS was lying to deflect from its agents’ misconduct. Baraka, appearing on CNN, echoed her disbelief, stating that no assaults occurred and hinting at the improbability of Watson Coleman, at 80, being capable of such an act.
