Nevada Softball Advances with Convincing Win Over Boise State in Mountain West Tournament
Reno, NV – The Nevada softball team triumphed over Boise State, 8-4, in their opening game of the Mountain West tournament on Thursday, showcasing a powerful fifth and sixth inning to cement their victory.
After a quiet start to the game, Nevada senior Tatum Maytorena ignited the offense in the fourth inning, driving in Saige Alfaro to score the first run. Madison Clark followed with an infield single, increasing the lead to 2-0. Alfaro added to the tally in the fifth with an RBI that brought in Hannah Di Genova, pushing the score to 3-0.
In a pivotal sixth inning, Nevada erupted for five runs. Maytorena set the tone with a single, later followed by Lexie O’Gorman’s hit to score her. Key contributions from Clark and Aaliyah Jenkins, the Mountain West Player of the Year, further widened the gap to 7-1 before Alfaro capped the inning with a single.
Despite a late settlement rally by Boise State, Nevada’s Tess Bumiller effectively closed the game, securing the win and marking the team’s 41st victory. The Wolf Pack will next face Fresno State at noon on Friday, aiming to advance to the championship round.
