Former Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak Considers Rematch Against Lombardo

Former Gov. Steve Sisolak Eyes 2026 Comeback Against Lombardo

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Former Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak is contemplating a 2026 gubernatorial run, hinting at a possible rematch against incumbent Republican Governor Joe Lombardo. In an interview with The New York Times, Sisolak acknowledged he has been encouraged by supporters to challenge Lombardo following his narrow defeat in 2022.

"I’m not ruling it out — I’m looking into it," Sisolak stated, while emphasizing that he plans to observe developments in the upcoming legislative session before making a final decision. Sisolak served as governor from 2019 to 2023 but lost to Lombardo by just over 15,000 votes in the last election, a margin of 1.51%.

To assess public sentiment regarding his previous term, Sisolak is collaborating with a pollster. He recognizes the importance of discussing the potential campaign with his family before committing. Asked about another potential Democratic contender, Attorney General Aaron Ford, Sisolak advised Ford to thoroughly consider his own political ambitions.

In a statement, the conservative Better Nevada PAC, which supports Lombardo, dismissed the challenges posed by Sisolak and Ford, arguing that Nevada Democrats lack appealing solutions. "Whether it’s Steve Sisolak or Aaron Ford, Nevada Democrats have nothing to offer our state but failed policies and corruption," said spokesman John Burke.

As political discussions heat up, both Democrats and Republicans are poised for an intense campaign season. Nevada’s primary election is set for June 9, 2026, marking a significant date for Sisolak, Lombardo, and potential challengers as they navigate the state’s political landscape. News 3 is currently reaching out to Ford’s campaign for further comment on his potential bid.
