Smokey Robinson Refutes Sexual Assault Allegations, According to Attorney

An attorney for Smokey Robinson has vehemently denied accusations of sexual assault made against the Motown legend. Four former housekeepers filed a lawsuit claiming Robinson assaulted them over several years, seeking damages of at least $50 million. Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, criticized the lawsuit, stating it is an attempt to exploit the 85-year-old singer and create a media spectacle. He emphasized that Robinson will respond personally to the allegations in due time.

The lawsuit, presented in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims the assaults primarily occurred at Robinson’s home in Chatsworth. The plaintiffs, referred to as Jane Does 1-4, described themselves as Hispanic women earning below minimum wage while working for Robinson. During a news conference, three of the women appeared wearing masks, while the fourth participated virtually.

One plaintiff alleges she was assaulted at least 23 times between May 2014 and February 2020. Another claimed to have been assaulted at least 20 times over a 12-year tenure beginning in 2012, with specific details about coercive behavior during the incidents. A third former housekeeper stated she faced assault multiple times during her 13-month employment.

Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, contributed to a hostile work environment through aggressive behavior and ethnic slurs. Frost plans to seek dismissal of the lawsuit, criticizing the plaintiffs’ attorneys for their aggressive media approach. He affirmed a commitment to defend Robinson’s reputation and clear the allegations. Smokey Robinson, a Motown pioneer, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
