Nevada Men’s Golf Season Wraps Up with Challenges Ahead
The Nevada men’s golf season concluded on April 27, marking the 11th team to finish its 2024-25 campaign. Hopes were tempered this season, especially after losing standout players, including former star Enrique Dimayuga, who transferred to SMU.
The Wolf Pack faced a challenging season, finishing without an official record due to featuring in 10 events, with their best performance being a seventh-place finish at the El Macero Classic. They placed eighth out of 11 teams at the Mountain West Championships, signaling a decline from previous years.
Senior Oak Seelanagae emerged as the team’s standout player, recording an adjusted scoring average of 72.3 over 30 rounds, ranking 523rd nationally, the highest among teammates. His notable finish was sixth at the El Macero Classic, helping underline his potential amidst team struggles.
Despite hopes for a resurgence, the Wolf Pack’s performance highlighted a stark trend: the team did not secure any top-six finishes, a first since joining the Mountain West in 2012. Their fall performances included consistently low placements, and while the spring provided a slight improvement, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.
The team’s overall performance led to a disheartening D+ grade, reflecting a significant dip compared to previous years where they participated regularly in NCAA Regionals and national tournaments. With just two players, Seelanagae and starter Liam Gobin, out of eligibility, the young roster, consisting of one freshman and three sophomores, could benefit from strategic transfers as they look to rebuild for the 2025-26 season.
As the Wolf Pack men’s golf program transitions, the path ahead may require significant adjustments to regain its competitive stature in collegiate golf.
