Carson City Advances Hundreds of Bills as Legislative Session Heats Up

Carson City, NV — On Tuesday, Nevada lawmakers marked a significant milestone in their legislative session as hundreds of bills passed through the First House Passage deadline, moving to the Senate for review. Amidst a jovial atmosphere, where many wore black to honor the bills that failed, discussions buzzed about the session’s potential conclusion date.

Several high-profile measures advanced, with 331 bills exempted from deadlines, allowing critical legislation—including the film tax credit proposal and key initiatives from Governor Joe Lombardo—to remain under consideration until the session ends on June 2.

Among the notable bills that passed, Assembly Bill 245 aims to prohibit those under 21 from possessing semi-automatic guns, while Senate Bill 141 mandates standards for the care of transgender individuals in detention facilities. In a move to enhance road safety, Jaya’s Law (AB111) classifies wrong-way driving as a misdemeanor.

Other key legislations include Assembly Joint Resolution 9, urging Congress to restrict immigration enforcement in sensitive areas like schools, and a significant bill on housing (AB241) supporting multifamily development on commercial properties.

Environmental and social initiatives also made strides, with AB244 banning Styrofoam containers in chain restaurants and SB 324 prohibiting plastic water bottles near the Lake Tahoe watershed.

Legislators also embraced transparency in entertainment with SB 338, which requires clear price disclosures for live event tickets. Additionally, AB451 offers civil liability immunity for firearm dealers who temporarily take guns at owners’ request, promoting responsible gun ownership.

As discussions continue in this dynamic legislative session, the prospect of new laws addressing critical issues remains promising, reflecting the diverse concerns of Nevada’s citizens.
