Judge Orders Release of Man Involved in Fatal Moapa Valley Crash
A judge has ordered the release of Steven Woods, 40, who faces DUI charges related to a tragic crash near Moapa Valley that resulted in the deaths of two children. The ruling was made on Wednesday due to the absence of a formal criminal complaint, as reported by Woods’ attorney, Chief Deputy Public Defender Steven Lisk.
Woods faces charges of DUI and reckless driving causing death or substantial bodily harm in Bunkerville Justice Court; however, he has not been officially charged. Judge Darryll Dodenbier released Woods without bail, originally set at $350,000, due to the expectation that charges would be filed imminently. Woods must abide by conditions barring him from driving or using controlled substances and is required to wear a drug patch.
The accident, which occurred on Sunday on Interstate 15, involved multiple vehicles, leading to the loss of two young lives and injuries to five others, including one critically injured individual who needed airlifting. While Lisk claims there is no evidence of alcohol in Woods’ system, prosecutor Michael Giles expressed uncertainty regarding the delay in filing charges. Woods is scheduled to return to court on May 21 for updates on potential charges.
