UNLV Secures Silver State Series Victory in All-Sport Showdown Against Rival Nevada

UNLV Clinches Third Consecutive Silver State Series Title Against Nevada

For the third consecutive year, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has announced its victory in the Silver State Series, a head-to-head athletic competition against rival University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). Since the competition’s inception in 2012, initially known as the Governor’s Series, UNLV has dominated, winning 10 out of 13 contests.

Under the current format, which was rebranded in 2018, the Silver State Series fosters academic and athletic rivalry between Nevada’s only two Division I institutions as they compete in various sports. This year, UNLV secured the championship with 21 points—having gained three points each in sports such as volleyball, football, and women’s basketball—against Nevada’s total of 15 points from sports including women’s soccer and softball. Points from swimming and diving and men’s basketball were split evenly between the teams.

With six points remaining, awarded in baseball and outdoor track and field, UNLV is already guaranteed a tie at worst, holding a tiebreaker advantage from its 38-14 football victory earlier this season. In baseball, UNLV leads with a 2-1 record in their regular-season matchups, while the outdoor track results are anticipated, as UNLV performed better in indoor championships.

UNLV’s victory continues an upward trend after Nevada’s recent wins in the Silver State Series from 2020 to 2022. With this latest triumph, the ongoing rivalry deepens, reinforcing UNLV’s stronghold in Nevada athletics.

Historical Series Results:

  • 2023: UNLV 31.5, Nevada 16.5 (remaining points to be decided)
  • 2022: Nevada 30, UNLV 18
  • 2021: Nevada 24, UNLV 21

The ongoing engagement between these two institutions reflects not only competitive spirit but also a commitment to academic excellence and athletic prowess across the state.
