Press Article: Judicial Commission Keeps Suspension on Judge Fiore Despite Presidential Pardon
The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline may maintain the suspension of Michele Fiore from her position as a Pahrump judge, even after she received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump. Fiore was convicted in October on conspiracy and wire fraud charges related to a fraudulent fundraising campaign supposedly honoring a fallen Las Vegas police officer, Alyn Beck. Instead of using the donations for the statue, Fiore used the funds for personal expenses, including rent and cosmetic surgery.
Following her indictment, Fiore was suspended with pay, but that changed to a no-pay status after her guilty verdict. Fiore expressed hopes that the pardon would allow for her swift return to the bench, declaring in a statement, “On Monday, I will walk back into my courtroom… because God ordained it.” However, her return was not realized, as the Commission filed a notice indicating it would review her case yet again.
While the discipline commission has yet to provide specific reasons for continuing her suspension, a hearing is scheduled to determine whether Fiore poses a significant threat to the public or the justice system. Attorney Paola Armeni, representing Fiore, expressed surprise at the commission’s actions, raising concerns about potentially finding new grounds for suspension unrelated to her judicial conduct.
Fiore emphasized her commitment to obeying court rules and maintaining respect for the judicial process. Meanwhile, the Nye County commission is scheduled to appoint a substitute justice of the peace, furthering uncertainties surrounding Fiore’s position.
