Press Release: Special Olympics Nevada Welcomes Jonathan Embler as New Assistant Director of Sports and Wellness
May 2, 2025 – Las Vegas, NV – Special Olympics Nevada is excited to announce the appointment of Jonathan Embler as the new assistant director of sports and wellness. With over 30 years of experience within the Special Olympics community, Embler’s extensive background includes 15 years as a staff member, along with roles as a coach, official, and dedicated volunteer.
In his new position, Embler will be instrumental in advancing Special Olympics Nevada’s sports programming by prioritizing athlete and coach development, implementing wellness initiatives, and ensuring high-quality event experiences for all participants. His career encompasses significant contributions to Special Olympics programs across North Carolina, Montana, and Utah. Most recently, he served as vice president of sports operations at Special Olympics Utah, where he oversaw all aspects of sports training and competitions.

Special Olympics Nevada is dedicated to providing inclusive opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities through health, education, leadership development, and sports. The nonprofit organization offers year-round training and competition for over 2,600 athletes across more than 14 annual competitions in seven sports. Notable initiatives include the Unified Champion Schools Program, which fosters teamwork among athletes with and without intellectual disabilities, and the newly launched “Mindset Matters” program that promotes mental health and stress management in schools.
Supported by 759 volunteers and varied funding sources, Special Olympics Nevada continues to impact over 17,820 students annually, promoting inclusion and overall health for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
