Nevada Softball Team Aiming for NCAA Bid After Mountain West Triumph
The Nevada softball team has clinched its first Mountain West title, finishing the regular season with a remarkable 40-14 record and an 18-4 mark in conference play. The Wolf Pack, top seed for the Mountain West tournament in San Diego, is set to open their campaign on Thursday against the winner of an elimination game between fourth-seeded Utah State and fifth-seeded Boise State.
Having already secured their spot in the double-elimination format, the team seeks to solidify their position for the NCAA regional round. This season’s 40 victories tie for the second-most in program history. The Mountain West title is particularly significant as it marks the first championship for Nevada since sharing a WAC title in 2009.
Key players include ace pitcher Hailey McLean, who boasts a 16-6 record, and star hitter Aaliyah Jenkins, a five-time MW player of the week, hitting .455 with 16 home runs and 57 RBIs. Northern Nevada natives Avery Cordell and Alycia Coats also contribute to the team’s success.
The Mountain West tournament runs from Wednesday to Saturday, showcasing the talent of the Wolf Pack as they aim for NCAA glory.
