U.S. House Passes Hotel Fees Transparency Act to Support Nevada Tourism
Washington, D.C. – This week, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the bipartisan Hotel Fees Transparency Act of 2025, a measure aimed at enhancing price transparency in short-term lodging. This legislation, which Nevada officials hope will bolster the state’s critical tourism sector, requires hotels, short-term rentals, and online sellers to display total service prices—including all fees—prior to customer purchases.
The bill, passed by voice vote on Monday, now heads to the Senate. The White House has refrained from commenting on whether President Trump would sign it into law if passed.
Travelers often encounter unexpected costs during the booking process, especially in Las Vegas, where resort fees can escalate nightly charges from $44 to $57. Industry advocates argue that this legislation will establish a consistent national standard, promoting fairness among hotels and rental platforms. “Our members already disclose resort fees prominently, and this requirement will level the playing field,” noted Virginia Valentine, president and CEO of the Nevada Resort Association.
Nevada’s congressional delegation staunchly supports the measure. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, a co-sponsor of the bill, emphasized its importance in fostering transparent pricing for visitors, especially as tourism revenues face a decline. “This common-sense legislation will cut out hidden fees,” she stated.
Adding to the momentum, Rep. Dina Titus remarked on the urgent need for tourism support during challenging times for the hospitality industry. Rep. Susie Lee echoed the sentiment, asserting that transparency protects consumers from unforeseen costs.
With the Federal Trade Commission also advocating for upfront fee disclosures, support for the Hotel Fees Transparency Act continues to grow. As Rep. Mark Amodei stated, “Transparency is key… especially important in a tourism-driven state like Nevada.”
