Nevada to Host Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships

RENO, NV – In a significant announcement on Tuesday, Nevada athletics, in collaboration with the Mountain West Conference, revealed that Reno will host the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships next season. This marks a landmark return, as it will be the first time since the WAC Championships in 2001 and 2002 that Nevada has hosted a conference indoor championship. The last Mountain West championship hosted by Nevada was in 2019 for baseball.

Nevada Athletic Director Stephanie Rempe expressed excitement about the event, emphasizing the importance of allowing student-athletes to compete on home turf in front of the Northern Nevada community. "We are excited and thankful to partner with the RSCVA to host the Mountain West Championships and showcase Nevada’s College Town in a greater spotlight," she said.

The three-day championship will take place from February 26-28, 2026, at the newly opened Reno-Tahoe Indoor Track, which debuted in December 2024. This facility has already hosted several indoor meets for the Wolf Pack, highlighting its state-of-the-art design. The track’s builder, Mondo, is renowned for constructing Olympic tracks over the past 40 years, making this location one of only three on the West Coast that is World Athletics certified for high-level events.

Wolf Pack track and field coach Shantel Twiggs noted the historical significance of the upcoming championship, reflecting on Nevada’s hosting legacy from 2001. "We are honored to serve as the host for the 2026 MW Indoor Track & Field Championships," she stated.

RSCVA President and CEO Mike Larragueta emphasized the facility’s role in promoting large national competitions to Northern Nevada. More information regarding event specifics, ticketing, and volunteer opportunities will be released in due course.
