Tragic Incident on I-580 Claims the Life of Good Samaritan
RENO, NV – A woman who stopped to assist a crash victim was tragically killed early Saturday morning on Interstate 580, south of Reno, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP). At approximately 2:15 a.m., a single-vehicle accident occurred on the southbound lanes near Mt. Rose Highway, leading to the blockage of the number two travel lane.
A Good Samaritan, an adult female, witnessed the crash and pulled over to offer help. However, a second vehicle traveling southbound entered the crash scene and struck both the initial crashed vehicle and the Good Samaritan. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
NHP reports that impairment is suspected for both drivers involved in the collisions. Specific details regarding their identities and conditions have not been released.
As a result of the incident, southbound I-580 was closed at Mt. Rose Highway around 6 a.m. and is expected to remain closed for several hours. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crashes.
