Shannon Sharpe announces his decision to leave ESPN following sex assault lawsuit in Nevada.

Former NFL player and ESPN analyst Shannon Sharpe announced that he will be stepping away from his ESPN duties temporarily following a civil lawsuit filed in Nevada accusing him of sexually assaulting a woman during their relationship. Sharpe denied the allegations and stated that he plans to return to ESPN at the start of the NFL preseason after devoting time to his family and responding to the accusations.

The lawsuit alleges that Sharpe raped the woman multiple times during their nearly two-year relationship and is seeking more than $50 million in damages. Sharpe has denied the allegations and plans to file a defamation lawsuit in response, accusing the plaintiff and her attorney of perpetrating a shakedown.

While the case is currently a civil matter, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirmed that Sharpe is not listed in any criminal investigations with the department. Sharpe, a Hall of Famer who played 14 seasons in the NFL, hosts the podcast “Club Shay Shay” and regularly appears on ESPN shows.
